BROOKFIELD, NS, October 26, 2010 - The Cumberland County Blues easily tamed the hometown Brookfield Elks 8-3 Tuesday night at the Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex in Brookfield, in the only game on the day's Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League schedule..

The game wasn’t two minutes old before Dave Burke gave the Blues an early 1-0 lead. Jordie Shaw and Burke’s younger brother Geoff drew the assists.

The score remained 1-0 until mid-way through the period when Lucas Dawe managed to tie the game for Brookfield on a powerplay. Chris Armsworthy drew the only assist. Two minutes later Burke again restored the Blues’ two-goal cushion from Geoff Burke and Jordie Shaw.

Then with nearly four minutes left in the period Zach Carson gave the Blues a 3-1 lead from Seth Crowe. The Blues enjoyed a huge 18-6 shot advantage in the period

The second period wasn’t even 17 seconds old when Dave Burke completed his hat trick to give the Blues a commanding 4-1 lead. With the goal, Burke takes over the scoring race lead at 22 points and also 11 goals on the year which is also tops in that department. Geoff Burke and Jordie Shaw also picked up the assists giving them three points each on the night.

With under four minutes remaining Drew Clark scored to cut the Blues’ lead in half at 4-2 from Lucas Dawe on the power play. The Elks seemed to pick up the pace somewhat as they turned around the shot clock in their favour 18-7 but the Blues still held a slim 2-period total of 25-24.

In the third Coady Read put the Elks to within one at 4-3 from Lucas Dawe, his third point of the game. Then in the span of one minute forty seconds the Blues struck hard for three straight goals.
