Elks start the year with 2 points

Saturday the Elks travelled to Glace Bay to face the Jr. Miners. Chris Ross of the Jr. Miners had the only goal in the 1st at 8:13. Shots favored the Jr. Miners 18 - 11. The teams exchanged goals in the 2nd. Michael White for the Jr. Miners at 15:18 with Lucas Dawe of the Elks answering on the powerplay 2 mins later. Shots 19 - 9 for the Jr. Miners. Matthew Canning of the Elks tied the game at 8:31 of the third. Then less than a minute later Leon Knockwood gave the Elks the lead with a spirited unassisted goal. The Elks ran into penalty trouble in the 3rd, and with only a 1:39 left the Jr. Miner's Jordan Langlois tied the game on the powerplay. End of the 3rd had the Jr. Miners up 21 - 6 in shots for game totals of 64 - 29. New this year is 4 on 4 overtime. The Elks started the extra frame down a man, but held on to get 1 big point. The shootout saw only one goal from Kaden Augustine who gave the Elks the W and the extra point. Next game is Monday night in Sackville to meet the Blazers.
