Elks Double Scotians
2013-10-14The Elks doubled the Pictou County Scotians 6-3 Sunday night in Trenton. There were no apparent effects of Thanksgiving Turkey dinner for the Elks as they battled hard from the opening faceoff to gain the win.

The first period the Scotians held the shot advantage 14- 11, but a goal with 1:12 left by Zach Coates with assist going to Ivan Knockwood put the Elks up 1-0 going to the dressing room,
Second Period the Scotians pushed back hard scoring all of their goals for the night - the first by Brandon Verge, the second on a power play by Tyler Bennett and the third by Brandon Mackenzie....enough about the Scotians. The Elks had their own push back and completed the comback scoring 2 goals in the last minute of the period - Ryan Crowe with a beauty tip from a Lucas Dawe shot made it 3-2 other assist going Leon Knockwood. Then 11 seconds later the Elks strike again to tie things upgoing to the third. Zack Bates won the faceoff forward gained the zone and Leon scored his first of three knocking in the rebound of an L Dawe shot.
The third period was all Elks on the game sheet- Crowe with the winning goal 1:03 into the last frame from Leon put the Elks ahead to stay. Leon scored on a shorthanded breakaway on a pass from deep in the Elks zone by L Dawe to give the visitors a 5-3 lead. Leon completed his Hat trick and the score with an empty netter un-assisted.
Final score 6-3. Final shots were 43- 37 in favour of the home side. These two teams meet again on Tuesday night in Brookfield.
